Choosing an E-Reader: Nook with GlowLight

When considering what e-reader to buy, a few options come to mind, and one of the top e-readers is the Nook, produced and distributed by Barnes and Noble. The Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight is an affordable, efficient, and easy-to-use product that makes reading eBooks and other content simple and fun.

While most features of the Simple Touch with GlowLight are comparable to the Simple Touch (without GlowLight) the newer version does include a few features that make it significantly better than the base model. The first and most evident is the GlowLight itself, a backlight that makes the screen much easier to see and read in dark environments, while being a soft enough light to reduce interference with the user’s vision and sleep patterns. Another feature is a built-in screen protector that reduces glare significantly, making this device better for reading in bright environments as well as dark ones.

This Nook has an excellent battery life, lasting more than twelve hours when used for reading, and having a stable battery that will retain its charge when not in use for a number of months. Remember that device life will be negatively affected by using the built-in Wi-Fi function for extended periods or by using the device for functions other than reading.

Another advantage the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight has over its competition is the file types it can support. In addition to the base file type used by Barnes and Noble’s published eBooks, the Nook can also open PDF files and EPub files, meaning users can enjoy a much wider variety of content than users of other e-readers.

To summarize the Specs:

  • Good Battery Life – around 12-16 hours
  • Lightweight – only weighs around 7 oz.
  • Full-function onscreen keyboard
  • Six-Inch backlit screen
  • Supports a wider variety of files – EPub and PDF files

So what does a device with all of these excellent features cost? At launch, the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight cost $140, but now the price has dropped to a simple $99, making it one of the most affordable e-readers currently available.
