An Overview of the LG G3 Smartphone

In a smartphone world that seems to be dominated by two devices, the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S series, the LG G series—a creation of South Korean company LG Electronics—has put up a valiant effort in attracting and keeping some considerable market share. First released on May 28, 2014, the LG G3 is better than previous iterations, with new features and specs that include a removable battery and a microSD card slot for expanding data storage.

The LG G3 uses a slate form factor, and it measures 5.76 inches in length, 2.94 inches in width, and 0.35 inches in thinness. The LCD capacitive multi-touch screen, which includes in-plane switching (IPS) technology, measures 5.5 inches diagonally, and it is fortified with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 cover glass. Also, the screen provides a high-definition resolution of 1,440 by 2,560 pixels. LG Electronics provides the phone in the following finishes: Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet, Burgundy Red, and Blue Steel.

The LG G3 runs on the Android v4.4.2 “KitKat” operating system, although it is upgradable. Its chipset is the Qualcomm MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801, which consists of a speedy quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 central processing unit and an Adreno 330 graphics processor.

The internal memory is available in two configurations: 16 GB of flash memory for data storage with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory with 3 GB RM. The aforementioned microSD slot allows the user to put in a flash memory card to expand the storage to a peak of 128 GB.

The primary, rear-facing camera on the LG G3 is a 13-megapixel (MP) feature that includes optical image stabilization, geo-tagging, face detection and laser autofocus, dual-tone flash, high-dynamic-range imaging, and simultaneous video and image recording. Also included is a secondary, front-facing 2MP camera. They both can record video at 30 frames per second, although the primary one does so at 2,160 pixels and the other does so at 1,080 pixels.

Each LG G3 comes with a lithium-ion 3,000 mAh battery. The stand-by and talk time of the device is measured at up to 565 hours and 21 hours, respectively.

Other features of the LG G3 include a music and video player, an active noise-cancelling mic, and Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac for wireless connectivity.
